Radiation Dose Reduction Techniques in the Workplace
نویسنده
چکیده مقاله:
The principal objective of radiation protection is to ensure that the dose received by any individual does not exceed the applicable M.P.D. values. We will discuss in this paper the presents recommendations and technical information related to the design and installation of structural shielding with taking into account the concept of Maximum Permissible Dose equivalent (MPDl as expressed and given in the Medical Journal of the National University of Iran, Vol. 3. No. 1, January 1975. The numerical values of the MPD are such that the probability of adverse biological effects is extremely low in light of the present scientific knowledge of Radiation Biological Effects (R.B.E.) in safety use. It includes a discussion of the various factors to be considered in the selection of appropriate shielding materials and in the calculation of barrier thickness. The paper is prepared after reviewing many literatures: i.e., all NBS, ICRP, ICRU, NCRP, published Journals and reports, all international recommendations in this subject for ihe use of radiologists, radiological physicists, health physicists, inspectors and regulatory personnel, architects, hospital administrators in the light of planning and designing new facilities, remodelling existing facilities, possible future needs for new equipments, higher radiation source of machine and even increasing work load.

Radiation dose from cardiac computed tomography before and after implementation of radiation dose-reduction techniques.
CONTEXT Cardiac computed tomography angiography (CCTA) can accurately diagnose coronary artery disease, but radiation dose from this procedure is of concern. OBJECTIVES To determine whether a collaborative radiation dose-reduction program would be associated with reduced radiation dose in patients undergoing CCTA in a statewide registry over a 1-year period and to define its effect on image q...
متن کاملThe use of radiation dose-reduction techniques in the practices of dental faculty members.
X-ray exposure to dental patients has been significantly reduced by the introduction of speed group E intraoral film, rectangular beam limitation, long position indicating devices (PIDs), and rare-earth intensifying screens for extraoral radiography. Research indicates that many dentists do not use these techniques. However, schools of dentistry have implemented them to varying degrees for many...
متن کاملImage Optimization and reduction of radiation dose in CT of the paranasal sinuses
Introduction: Since demand for computed tomography (CT) examinations is growing, patients are exposed more frequently to ionizing radiation. To reduce the dose delivered to patients in each scan, CT technologists can change the image acquisition parameters. However, this reduces image quality. Present study aimed to optimize and reduce radiation dose in a CT of the paranasal si...
متن کاملRadiation Dose Reduction in Paranasal Sinus CT
Objectives. To (1) compare the radiation dose of low-dose computed tomography (CT) to that of standard-dose CT, (2) determine the minimum optimal radiation dose for use in patients who need endoscopic sinus surgery, and (3) assess the reliability of iterative model reconstruction. Study Design. Prospective single-institution study. Setting. Tertiary care center. Subjects and Methods. We recruit...
متن کاملNonlinear filtering for CT radiation dose reduction
Nonlinear bilateral filters (BF) deliver a fine blend of computational simplicity and blurfree denoising. However, little is known about their nature, noise-suppressing properties, and optimal choices of filter parameters. Our study is meant to fill this gap—explaining the underlying mechanism of bilateral filtering and providing the methodology for optimal filter selection. Practical applicati...
